Problem Statement
East Africa population is growing at a rapid rate of 2.9% annually, the population is projected to raise from 327m in 2010 to 771m by 2050 it could even surpass the entire population of Latin America and the Caribbean from Mexico in the north to Argentina in the south.
This is leading to poor service delivery in the sectors of health, education, creating un-employment and environment degradation.
And grant-making is often biased and unjust. Foreign-led organizations in Africa still receive the bulk of funding at the expense of local organizations.
Challenges by locally led organisations
-
Locally led organizations often lack access to donor space and the much-needed connections
-
They lack skills in fundraising and grant writing that speaks the language that donors require, and lack of necessary structures and systems in place.
-
They work in isolation that limits their advocacy power for a fair share in the philanthropy space.
Local Solutions
Local philanthropists are responding to solution for their community needs with sustainable and holistically locally led interventions.
They are best positioned to deliver impact because they are deeply rooted in the communities they serve—they understand them, know what works and what doesn’t and collaborate with their communities to design creative and cost-effective interventions.

Our Model
The Pamoja Africa Fund accelerates unrestricted funding to African-led member organizations and fosters collaboration through networking and capacity building opportunities to co-create impact.
