Peace Education Initiative
Vision:
Peace Education Initiative Rwanda (PEACEDU) is a non-government organization which aims at preventing genocide and mass atrocities through education
Country: Rwanda
Website: https://peacedu.org
Peacedu is more focused on teaching young Rwandans human rights, genocide studies, peace education, and tolerance in order to build tolerant society with the hope of better future without hatred. It was founded in 2011 by professional and motivated Rwandan teachers who are engaged in healing wounds caused by 1994 genocide.
We use different approaches like dialogues, trainings, workshop and participatory methods such as critical thinking. Peacedu has been working with renowned organization to foster important approaches and methodologies that enhance higher critical thinking using different examples and inspiration. Through our education approaches, it is expected that young people that we work together on the daily basis will be able to make right and informed decisions with the overall goal of fostering harmony among Rwandan citizens. They will also be able to identify some challenges that grip them on the daily basis so that they can be in the right decision to confidently address those using collaborative efforts.
Peacedu organizes trips for teachers, students' club members as well as parents to different genocide memorials across the country. The trips and workshops help them to acquire knowledge about genocide prevention. Parents and teachers are always urged to instill skills of the critical thinking into their young minds because they are the cornerstone for hope of Rwanda. We also facilitate teachers to heal their wounds caused by genocide through storytelling. Therefore, they may become more confident in teaching such sensitive topics.
